[platform-coop-dev-kit] Follow up on co-design planning

Hi Salonie,

Glad to hear you’ve got the co-design sessions planned for the 18th and 25th. I am travelling to Toronto today, Monday is a holiday for us, and next week will be quite busy with our DEEP conference and other project meetings. Perhaps we could address any questions and discussion by email before then. Do you have an agenda or activity plan for the co-design sessions that you could share with us?

One thing we want to make sure of is that whatever is produced during the co-design sessions is in a form that can be shared with us for input into the development toolkit. Will it be possible for you to translate any notes that come out of the sessions? And of course share any sketches or designs with us, whether digital or photos of paper sketches etc.

Please let us know if you have any questions. I’m excited to see what comes out of the sessions!

Thanks,

Dana

Hi all,

I am so so sorry but I have to take a raincheck on the meeting today. Have a sudden, last minute task to finish for the ICA conference in Rwanda later this week.

The co-design sessions are planned for Oct. 18 and the second for Oct. 25 so we have a little bit of time.

Apologies for this - do let me know when we can reschedule.

Warm regards,
Salonie

Hi Salonie,

Great, confirming that we’ll meet on Wednesday October 9 at 7:30pm IST (7am PDT / 10am EDT).

And yes if Oct 11th works for you please go ahead and start planning your session. It won’t leave much time between our meeting and your session so please don’t hesitate to email any questions you might have in the meantime.

Best,

Dana

Hi Dana,

9th October should be good! Meanwhile, we have scheduled a meeting with the managers of the domestic work co-ops so we can brief them about the plan. Shall I go ahead and schedule the first session? Perhaps on the 11th, following our meeting?

Warmest,
Salonie

Hi Salonie,

The week of Oct 1 is not great for me, how about the following week, Tues, Wed or Thurs (Oct 8/9/10), usual time (7:30pm IST)?

Glad to hear you’ll be attending the conference!

Dana

Hi Dana and team!

Looked through the documents, but shall spend more time with them.
Did want to add some things from Federation's perspective: communicating with workers through the app, ensure safety (which I assume will also come up in co-design).

I have a new associate joining the team end of the month. I want her to be closely involved with process - can we schedule our next meeting for Oct 1st week?

Warmest,
Salonie
PS. I have confirmed by participation at the New School event on Nov 7-9!

Hi Dana,

Can I get back to you on this by the weekend? Want to look at it carefully and make sure we cover all that the Federation is looking for from the platform.

Warmest,
Salonie

Hi Salonie,

I wanted to confirm our understanding of the needs that you are hoping to address with a digital platform for the domestic workers:

  * distributing scheduling/booking power beyond a single manager (who tends to book workers within her community only)
  * distributing work to all members equally across the database (related to first point)
  * helping to improve reliability of service (including finding a replacement worker when needed)

Did I miss anything?

The co-design sessions will allow us to understand the workers’ needs from their perspective and also to get their input into how a platform could meet those needs in terms of its functionality. As we discussed on our call, once we have input from the co-design sessions we’ll have a much better idea of the scope of the work. We want to support SEWA as much as we can in the design and development of the platform. However we also need to find a balance in terms of supporting the specific needs of SEWA with supporting the needs of other coops by focusing on developing common tools and broadly applicable components.

Once we have identified what the platform needs to do, we can scope out the work, and determine how much of it we can take on. Where we are unable to provide support we can help you find designers and developers as needed.

I’m attaching some materials related to co-design -

  * The co-design schedule and activities that we did with SEWA in November 2018<https://docs.google.com/document/d/107Mz6nrAUzbQJgbeHzSOov-vW4GIh5EthHxjNB86CGA/edit?usp=sharing>
  * An example of co-design activities that we’ve developed with CoRise Coop <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bk8za0_Jhk499y6eZuGlWUMWddQNvvGI8FBZjZXtlFc/edit?usp=sharing> (and which I think could be adapted to meet SEWA’s needs)
  * The attached word doc which is a very long and detailed document that we were required to prepare for our Research Ethics Board. Please focus on Section 4.0 and Section 5.0 for information related to preparing for a co-design session. Much of the content may not be relevant to your context.
  * You’ll also find the notes from our last call here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Jw8jZ_WQIk8B2904k2tea_Lmy0jkWiXueYkXS0JOeqA/edit?usp=sharing>.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and once you’ve had a chance to look through this let’s set up a meeting to discuss the co-design plan.

Best regards,

Dana
