Dear Jutta,
How are you? That question resonates in such a different way these days! I hope that you, your loved ones and your team members are well.
My National Lead, Episodic Disabilities, Melissa Egan (cc’d on this message) and I are proposing a session - in the below mentioned upcoming Disability & Work Conference - on ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Disabilities in Canada’ (the blurb from us would speak specifically from the perspective of barriers created in the hiring process for people with episodic disabilities, since this is some work that Melissa has just started in tandem with a small research team who invited us into their group based upon our expertise).
We were wondering, therefore, whether anyone on your team is doing work on AI and disabilities, especially focusing on either access to work/maintaining work/returning to work, or anything along the employment journey? If so, we would love to be connected to that person/those persons to pitch a 35min joint session on AI at the upcoming Conference.
If the notice is too short (we must submit the session blurb by the end of the day this Friday), we will totally understand, as we will proceed to submit a proposal for a shorter session on the work being done by Melissa and the group on AI and episodic disabilities.
Otherwise, we’d be thrilled to connect otherwise to chat about any potential synergies going forward.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Warmest,
TCY

We are seeking proposals for different types of sessions from the disability community, businesses, unions, policymakers, service providers and other interested parties. The following types of sessions are being called for:
Vignettes: 5-minute presentations of lived experiences, good practice experiences, success stories, champion initiatives, and other contextualized experiences that exemplify relevant issues in disability and work.
Panel Sessions: 35-minute sessions with several speakers (maximum of four plus a moderator) on current topics with multiple perspectives and insights. Examples of topics include intersectionality, guidance on return-to-work following the COVID-19 pandemic, accommodation best practices, and local initiatives of interest. For these sessions, panel presentations should be approximately 20-30 minutes, with another 5-15 minutes reserved for discussion and questions at the end.
Panel Member: For those interested in participating on a panel on a particular topic, we invite people with experience, knowledge, or insights to nominate themselves for a topic. The DWC committee will attempt to coordinate candidates with similar interests to help organize sessions.
Presentations: These are 15-minute sessions on a focused topic. Presenters share their experience, knowledge, or insights on a topic relevant to the DWC Strategy in Action. Presentations should be approximately 10 minutes with 5 minutes reserved for discussion and questions at the end.
